US-based independent power producer Eolian has announced that Flint Grid, a 200 MW/1.06 GWh energy storage project located in Ohio, US, has entered the construction phase (Eolian Energy press release, 29/07/2026).
According to the company’s press release, the Flint Grid Project is the first grid-scale battery energy storage system approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board and the largest battery energy storage facility built to date in Ohio and across the PJM footprint, covering the largest power market region in the US. The project sets a significant precedent for future energy storage developments throughout the state.
"There's growing consternation about how the US can rapidly scale infrastructure to support America's growing electricity demand, but not nearly enough conversation about how to use existing technology to unlock the wasted capacity that already exists on the grid" said the CEO of Eolian.
Flint Grid is expected to begin commercial operations ahead of the 2027–2028 PJM capacity year.
