Envision has commissioned the initial phase of its planned 2 GW data centre in Ulanqab (Inner Mongolia, China) (Envision press release, 06/08/2026).
According to Energy Connects, the first phase of Envision Galaxy Campus consists of 120 MW that has already been allocated to two local tech giants (06/08/2026), that will be powered directly by renewable energy.
Once fully built out, the site is designed to deliver one million PFLOPS of AI computing capacity and support up to one million AI accelerators, powered through Envision's proprietary AI Power System integrating renewable generation, transmission infrastructure and energy storage.
According to Envision, the facility could deliver up to ten times more compute output per square metre than conventional data centres. The project represents the first flagship development under Envision's Mission Gobi initiative, launched in June 2026, which aims to develop 5 GW of green AI computing capacity in desert and arid regions worldwide by 2030.
Ulanqab has emerged as an AI infrastructure hub due to its abundant wind and solar resources as well as its cool temperatures ideal for AI servers. AI developer DeepSeek is also planning a 1 GW data centre in the region.
