The US energy group Entergy has secured approval from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) to construct two gas-fired power plants in South Texas (United States) with a combined capacity of over 1.2 GW. The Legend and Lone Star projects are part of Entergy Texas’ Southeast Texas Energy Plan are expected to start operations by mid-2028 to provide enough energy to power more than 300,000 homes.
The US$1,600m Legend CCGT power plant will be built in Port Arthur with a total capacity of 754 MW, will be able to run on hydrogen, and may be equipped with a CCS facility. Meanwhile, the 453 MW Lone Star power plant is planned to be built near Cleveland with an investment of about US$800m; it would consist of a hydrogen-ready combustion turbine.
