Eni's Nooros gas field in Egypt reaches 25 mcm/d production level

Italian energy group Eni has announced that the Nooros field in Egypt had reached a production level of 900 mcf/d (25 mcm/d, or 9.3 bcm/year). The field, located in the Nile Delta, entered into production in September 2015 and was expected to reach a peak production capacity of 928 mcf/d (26.2 mcm/d) in the spring of 2017.

This additional production will help Egypt reverse its declining oil and gas production. The country, once a net energy exporter, has turned into a net importer; in October 2016, gas production averaged 4.35 bcf/d (123 mcm/d, compared to a consumption of 5.2 bcf/d (147 mcm/d). Egypt is now seeking to attract investors to boost domestic production and expects the giant gas field Zohr, discovered by Eni in August 2015, to start production in 2017: it is estimated to hold 30 tcf (naerly 850 bcm) of gas and should produce 1 bcf/d (28 mcm/d, or 10.3 bcm/year) as of 2017.
