Eni takes FID for the Baleine 3 oil and gas project in Côte d’Ivoire

The Italian energy group Eni, together its partners Petroci, the Ivorian state-owned oil company, and the Swiss trader Vitol, have approved the final investment decision (FID) for the Baleine Phase 3 project in Côte d’Ivoire (Eni press release, 25/05/2026). It will increase oil production from 60 to 150 kb/d (3 Mt/year to 7.5 Mt/year) and gas production from 80 to 200 mcf/d (from 0.8 to 2.1 bcm/year).

The project includes the development of a new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. All gas produced will be allocated to the domestic market. 

The country produced 2.3 Mt of crude oil in 2024 and 2.8 bcm of natural gas. In 2024, the power sector accounted for 80% of the gas demand and industry for 15%.
