The Italian oil and gas company Eni has launched the second phase of production at the Baleine oil and gas field offshore Côte d’Ivoire. Phase 2 will increase production at the field to 60 kb/d of oil and 70 mcf/d (720 mcm/year) of associated gas.
Phase 2 will see the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Unit (FPSO) Petrojarl Kong deployed alongside the Floating Storage and Offloading Unit (FSO) Yamoussoukro for the export of oil, while 100% of the processed gas will supply the local energy demand through the connection with the pipeline built during the project’s phase 1.
Eni started production for phase 1 of the project in August 2023, with an initial 15 kb/d of oil and around 25 mcf/d (258 mcm/year) of associated gas. The third development phase aims to elevate field production up to 150 kb/d of oil and 200 mcf/d (2.1 bcm/year) of gas.
Baleine, discovered in September 2021, is said to hold estimated reserves of 2.5 Gbl (335 Mt) of oil and 3.3 tcf (93.4 bcm) of associated gas.
