Eni starts oil production from the OCTP oil and gas block off Ghana

Italian energy group Eni has started production from the Integrated Oil and Gas Development Project, in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block, off the western coast of Ghana. The project was developed in just 2.5 years, and launched three months ahead of schedule.

The OCTP integrated oil and gas development consists of the Sankofa Main, Sankofa East and Gye-Nyame fields, which are estimated to hold about 770 mboe of oil in place, of which 500 mbl of oil and 270 mboe (about 40 bcm) of non-associated gas. Eni, which is the operator of the OCTP block with a 44.44% stake - in partnership with Vitol (35.56%) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC, 20%), will use the 85,000 boe/d “John Agyekum Kufuor” floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO). Gas production will be transported through a 63-km-long pipeline to the Sanzule's Onshore Receiving Facilities (ORF), where it will deliver 180 mcf/d (5.1 mcm/d or 1.85 bcm/year) of gas to the national grid. Gas production from the three fields will be entirely sold on the domestic market.

Eni has been present in Ghana since 2009 through its subsidiary Eni Ghana. In 2016, Eni obtained a new exploration license, Cape Three Points Block 4, adjacent to the OCTP Block.
