Eni starts building a 3 Mt/year LNG export plant in Congo

Eni has laid the foundation stone of Congo LNG in the Republic of the Congo, the country's first natural gas liquefaction project. The project, which will tap the gas resources of Marine XII, is expected to reach an overall LNG production capacity of 3 Mt/year (4.5 bcm/year) from 2025. Congo LNG will include the installation of two floating natural gas liquefaction plants (FLNG) at the Nenè and Litchendjili fields – already in production – and at the fields yet to be developed. The first FLNG plant (0.6 Mt/year) is currently under conversion and will begin production in 2023. The second FLNG plant (2.4 Mt/year) is already under construction and will be commissioned in 2025.

Eni is the leading natural gas producer in Congo. The country's marketed gas production increased tenfold between 2010 (103 mcm) and 2021 (nearly 1.1 bcm). Congo does not currently produce or export LNG.
