Eni announces new oil and gas discovery off Mexico (up to 400 Mboe)

The Italian Group Eni has announced the discovery of up to 400 Mboe of oil and gas on the Yopaat-1 EXP exploration well in Block 9 of the Sureste Basin located in the Gulf of Mexico (Mexico). Located at approximately 63 km off the coast of the Southeastern Salina Basin (Cuenca Salina), the well has an estimated potential of around 300-400 Mboe of oil and gas. Block 9 Joint venture is a partnership between Eni as Operator with a participating interest of 50% and Repsol with the remaining 50%.

Eni has been present in Mexico since 2006 and established its wholly owned subsidiary Eni Mexico in 2015, with the rights to eight exploration and production blocks in the Sureste Basin. The group also operates Blocks 7 and 10 in the Gulf of Mexico, which also had discoveries with an overall estimate of resources in place exceeding 1.3 Gboe.
