Italy’s energy group Eni and Argentina’s oil and gas group YPF have signed the Final Technical Project Description (FTPD), a crucial step toward the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the 12 Mt/year LNG phase of the integrated upstream-midstream Argentina LNG (ARGLNG) project. The project covers the production, processing, transportation, and liquefaction of gas for export through two floating gas liquefaction units (FLNGs), each with a capacity of 6 Mt/year (9 bcm/year), with an expected completion date set for 2029.
Argentina LNG is a large-scale integrated upstream and midstream development initiative aimed at exploiting the onshore Vaca Muerta gas field, home to the world’s second-largest shale gas reserves, and supplying international markets with up to 30 Mt/year of LNG in multiple independent phases.
In June 2025, Eni and YPF signed an initial Head of Agreement (HoA) to collaborate on developing gas resources from the Vaca Muerta field in Argentina.
