Eni and BP discover about 500 mbl of oil in exploration well offshore Angola

Eni and BP have discovered oil in the Algaita-01 exploration well in Block 15/06 offshore Angola with an initial estimate of about 500 mbl (Eni press release,14/02/2026). The exploration well, located on the Lower Congo Basin was drilled by the Saipem 12000 drill ship in a water depth of 667 meters and its location near existing infrastructure increases significantly the value of the discovery and its potential for development.

Block 15/06 is operated by Azule Energy (36.84%), in partnership with SSI (26.32%) and Sonangol E&P (36.84%). Azule Energy is a 50/50 joint venture combining BP and Eni’s Angolan businesses in oil and gas since 2022, and it is the second largest oil operator in the country.

The Algaita-01 represents Azule Energy’s fourth significant discovery after the Gajajeira01 gas find (Angola) and the Volans-1X and Capricornus-1X discoveries (Namibia).
