Saudi Arabia's national power utility Saudi Electric Co. (SEC) has awarded Engie a contract to build the 1,500 MW Fadhili gas-fired power plant in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. The US$1.2bn power project is developed by SEC and by national oil and gas company Saudi Aramco (30% each), with 40% held by private sector partners. The power plant is expected to be commissioned by December 2019.
The power plant project is part of Saudi Aramco's US$13.3bn (SR50bn) Fadhili gas processing project, expected in 2019. The Fadhili gas processing plant will be able to process gas from onshore and offshore fields. It should process a total of 71 mcm/d (26 bcm/year) of non-associated gas (80% from the Hasbah offshore gas field and 20% from the Khursaniyah onshore gas field). Along with Saudi Aramco’ Wasit and Midya major gas projects, Fadhili should add more than 141 mcm/d (51.5 bcm/year), raising domestic gas production to more than 17 bcf/d (480 mcm/d or 175 bcm/year) by 2020.
