Engie strengthens its presence in the Indian renewable market

The French energy group Engie has inaugurated the 101 MWp Mirzapur solar power project in Uttar Pradesh (India), which was awarded to Engie in May 2016 for a price of INR4.43/kWh (US$68/MWh) and which secured a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in June 2016. The group has been significantly developing its Indian solar capacity during the last two years: Engie now has a total solar installed capacity of 810 MWp in the country, while its domestic wind power capacity stands at 80 MW.



In addition, Engie has announced four additional solar PV and wind projects in India. Engie has signed a PPA for the 338 MWp Kadapa solar power plant in Andra Pradesh and started commercial operation at the 190 MWp Bhadla solar power plant in Rajasthan). Bhada was awarded to Engie in 2016 with an offer of INR4.35/kWh (US$67/MWh), while Kadapa was won with a price of INR3.15/kWh (US$48.5/MWh). In addition, Engie was recently awarded two wind projects in India: a 30 MW wind project in Gujarat expected by June 2019 (PPA of INR 2.44/kWh, i.e. US$38/MWh) and a 50 MW wind project in Tamil Nadu expected by the end of 2019 (awarded at a tariff of INR 2.45/kWh, i.e. US$37.7/MWh).
