Engie Chile, a subsidiary of French energy group Engie, has started commercial operations of its 344 MW Kallpa wind project in the commune of Taltal (Antofagasta region, in northern Chile). The former Lomas de Taltal wind project consists of 57 wind turbines of 6 MW of power each, representing a total installed capacity of 344 MW and generating approximately 923 GWh/year, avoiding the emission of about 364 ktCO2/year.
The US$459m project obtained its authorization from the National Electricity Coordinator (CEN) in early March 2025, making of it the second ENGIE Chile wind facility to enter commercial operation during 2025, with the first being the 68 MW/418 MWh BESS Tamaya. Engie expects to have a portfolio of 2.5 GW on renewable energy and storage generation capacity by 2027.
