Engie has signed a long-term LNG sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Thailand’s Gulf Development Company, one of Thailand's largest private power producers (Gulf press release, 13/01/2026). Under this deal, Engie will supply 0.8 Mt/year over 15 years to Gulf, with LNG to be delivered to the company’s power plants in Thailand starting from 1 January 2028. Price details were not disclosed.
The deal follows a similar agreement signed between Gulf and the Italian energy group Eni, for a 0.8 Mt/year supply of LNG over 10 years starting in January 2027 (KEI, 08/12/2025). These types of deals are a key element on Gulf’s strategy to diversify its natural gas sources, aligning with Thailand’s national energy management plan.
Gulf is taking part to the development of Thailand's third LNG terminal in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Port, with an initial capacity of 8 Mt/year (expandable to 10.8 Mt/year). Commissioning is expected to be completed in early 2029.
