Engie sells its stake in 3 thermal power plants (1.8 GW) in the UK

Engie and Mitsui have inked an agreement with the private equity firm Energy Capital Partners (ECP) for the sale of their respective stakes (75% for Engie and 25% for Mitsui) in three thermal power plants in the United Kingdom (UK) with a combined total gross capacity of 1,841 MW. The three concerned assets are the Saltend and Deeside gas-fired power plants and the Indian Queens oil-fired peaking plant.

The 1,197 MW Saltend gas-fired plant is a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility located in Hull, East Riding, in Yorkshire. It features three gas turbines and was commissioned by Entergy in 2000. The 515 MW Deeside CCGT facility is located in Flintshire, North Wales. It came onstream in 1994 and includes two gas turbines. The 129 MW Indian Queens oil-fired peaking plant is located near Newquay in Cornwall.

The £205m (€232m) agreement fits into Engie's 2016-2018 transformation plan and is in line with the group's strategy to reduce its exposure to merchant activities. The company is currently investing in UK low carbon and flexible power generation and purchased in particular a 23.3% stake in the 950 MW Moray East offshore wind farm project in Scotland.
