Engie sells 4 coal-fired power plants in Germany and the Netherlands

French energy group Engie has agreed to sell its shares in four coal-fired power plants totalling 2,345 MW in Germany and the Netherlands to the global energy-focused investment firm Riverstone Holdings. Engie owns 100% in the 731 MW Rotterdam power plant in the Netherlands and in the 350 MW Farge and 472 MW Zolling power plants in Germany, along with a 52% stake in the 726 MW Wilhelmshaven power plant in Germany. After the completion of the transaction, coal-fired plants will represent 4% of Engie’s global power generation capacities, down from 13% at the end of 2015 when the group announced a gradual phase out or disposal of its coal-fired assets. Over the last three years, Engie has reduced its coal-fired power generation base by approximately 75%.
