Engie secures final concession for a 300 MW solar plant in Peru

Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) has granted Engie Energía Perú, a subsidiary of the French energy group Engie, the definitive concession to build the 300 MW Hanaqpampa solar power plant in the district of El Algarrobal, province of Ilo, southern Peru.

In October 2021, the project received an Environmental Impact Statement approval, while in February 2021, Engie received a temporary concession to develop feasibility studies for the project. ENGIE Energía Perú has eight generation plants distributed in 4 regions of Peru (Lima, Moquegua, Pasco and Ancash) with a total capacity of 2,496 MW.

Peru targets the development of 4.7 GW of solar PV capacity, which is intended to be incorporated into the country's National Interconnected Electric System by the end of 2028. At the end of 2021, solar represented about 2% of Peru’s installed capacity with around 290 MW. The country currently has over 4 GW of solar projects under development.
