Ocean Winds, the 50:50 joint venture of Engie and EDP Renewables, has made a positive final investment decision (FID) on the 496 MW Îles d'Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind project, located off the Vendée coast in western France. The €2.5bn project was awarded to Ocean Winds through tenders in 2014 and administrative authorisations were secured in 2018. Construction will now start and the wind turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa will be installed in 2025. The project should be commissioned in the second half of 2025.
Set up in 2020, Ocean Winds has two other offshore wind projects under development in France, namely the 496 MW Dieppe-Le Tréport project and the 30 MW Gulf of Lion floating pilot park. The FID on the Dieppe-Le Tréport project is expected in the coming months. The company has a portfolio of 15 projects in 7 countries, with 1.5 GW in operation and 15.1 GW under construction and in development. In 2022, the joint venture won 8 GW of projects in Scotland (United Kingdom) and in the United States, tripling the size of its project portfolio since 2020.
