ENGIE & European Energy will cooperate on renewable H2 in Denmark

ENGIE and European Energy have entered into a cooperation agreement to advance the development of a large-scale renewable hydrogen project near Kassø in Aabenraa Municipality, Denmark, including up to 150 MW of electrolysis capacity, targeting operations around 2030 (European Energy press release, 09/06/2026).

The project, intended to support renewable hydrogen demand in Germany and connect to the future Danish-German Hydrogen Backbone, has been selected under Germany’s hydrogen auction (AaaS 25), linked to the European Hydrogen Bank. The hydrogen produced at the site is expected to supply industrial and mobility demand in Germany and support the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors while building business resilience within EU.

The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration between the parties, including technical studies, and work related to hydrogen transport. Under this agreement, ENGIE reserves the marketing right of more than 20kt/year of renewable hydrogen.
