Engie and Tokyo Gas will develop 899 MW of solar and wind capacity in Mexico

Tokyo Gas, through its subsidiary Tokyo Gas Renewable, has announced that it will establish a 50-50 joint venture (JV), Heolios EnTG, with French energy group Engie to develop and operate six renewable energy projects totalling 899 MW in Mexico. The JV plans to develop two onshore wind parks - namely the 52 MW Tres Mesas 3 wind project (commissioned in March 2019) and the 101 MW Tres Mesas 4 wind project (expected in March 2020) - and four solar PV projects: the 159MW Trompezon solar project in Aguascalientes (expected in July 2019), the 200 MW Villa Ahumada solar plant in Chihuahua (July 2019), the 253.5 MW Calpulalpan project in Tlaxcala (July 2020), and the 134 MW Abril solar plant in Sonora (July 2020). The JV was approved by the Federal Competition Commission (COFECE) in March 2019 and its projects already secured 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) through Mexican power auctions. Mexico has pledged to reach 35% of clean energy sources by 2024.
