Engie and REE synchronise the 2 main power networks in Chile

The Chilean company Transmisora Eléctrica del Norte (TEN) has commissioned a new 500 kV power interconnection project between Mejillones in the Antofagasta Region in northern Chile and Cardones in the Atacama Region of central Chile. The interconnection line connects the country's central and northern power grids, namely Sistema Interconectado Central (SIC) and Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande (SING), contributing to the unification of the Chilean electric system. The line spreads across 600 km and comprises four substations.

TEN is a joint venture between the French energy group Engie (50%) through Engie Energia Chile and Red Eléctrica Internacional (50%) through its local branch Red Eléctrica Chile (local subsidiary of Spanish power transmission network operator REE). Engie Energia Chile is held by Engie (52.76%) and operates a network of 2,168 km of transmission lines throughout the country and currently owns an installed power generation capacity of 1,971 MW.
