Engie and Infinium plan an e-fuels plant with a 400 MW electrolyser (France)

Engie has formed a partnership with Infinium to jointly develop the €500m Reuze project to produce synthetic fuels in Dunkirk (northern France) for use in air and sea transport; other applications for the chemicals industry are also envisaged. As part of the project, ArcelorMittal would capture 300,000 tCO2 from its steel production facilities and combine them with green hydrogen produced by a 400 MW electrolyser installed by Engie. Infinium would supply technology for ultra low-carbon e-fuels. The project is being supported by the Ademe (France's environment and energy management agency), the Dunkirk urban community, the Dunkirk Grand Port Maritime and the Hauts-de-France region. The final investment decision is expected in late 2023 and the project could enter commercial operation in 2026.
