During a bilateral meeting between France and Egypt, French energy groups Engie and EDF have signed energy agreements with Egyptian companies.
EDF has signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for the development of renewable energies in Egypt. There MoUs were signed by EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) and the Egyptian El Sewedy Electric Group for the development of wind and solar projects and future funding of solar projects. EDF EN, the NREA and Proparco, a subsidiary of the French Development Agency, also signed a joint statement in favour of the development of renewable energies. EDF signed another agreement on technical cooperation for projects of new power generation plants and Edison International (subsidiary of EDF) signed an agreement on the implementation of a planned gas-fired power plant and on the plant’s supply from a future gas production facility operated by Edison.
In addition, Engie has signed a cooperation agreement in renewable energies with the National Renewable Energy Association (NREA) and the Egyptian Electricity Transport Company (EETC). ENGIE and its partners are already developing two 50 MW solar PV projects in Benban under the FiT (Feed-in-Tarif) program, two 50 MW wind projects FiT Ras Ghareb, and the “West of Nile” complex where Engie has pre-qualified for wind, solar PV and CSP Build-Own-Operate (BOO) projects. Engie is also developing a 250 MW BOO wind project in the Gulf of Suez, in partnership with Orascom and Toyota Tsusho. In addition, Engie and the Egyptian national company EGAS have executed a cooperation agreement on LNG importation to Egypt.
