ENGIE advances 400 MW of BESS projects in Europe

ENGIE has announced the acquisition of two BESS projects totalling 278 MW/1.1 GWh in Spain for EUR240m (USD281m). The two projects are the following:

  • the 200 MW/800 MWh Palmosilla battery storage project in Tarifa, Cádiz,
  • the 78 MW/ 312 MWh Cerrillo proposal in Álora, Málaga.

The two projects, which have won a joint grant of EUR70m (USD82m) from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) are scheduled to begin construction in 2027, with progressive commissioning from 2028.

The company has also started construction on a 110 MW/220 MWh BESS project in Castelnau-d’Aude, France, planned for commissioning in 2027.

With these new projects and 700 MW already under construction or in operation, ENGIE now has over 1 GW of BESS capacity spanning across 8 countries in Europe (France, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania and the United Kingdom). ENGIE aims to reach 95 GW of renewable and storage capacity by 2030
