EnerSynk signs 25-year PPA for a 500 MW solar project in Zambia

Hungary-based EnerSynk Group has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Zambia’s national utility ZESCO for a planned 500 MW solar project in the Copperbelt Province (EnerSynk press release, 15/09/2026).

The agreement establishes the commercial framework for electricity sales and enables EnerSynk to advance the next stages of development, including technical studies, environmental and regulatory procedures, financing and implementation planning. The company recently obtained the regulatory approvals required to progress the development.

EnerSynk plans to implement the project in phases, coordinating technical development, financing and construction activities under a broader implementation programme. According to the company, the PPA intends to strengthen the country’s power supply and supports its strategy to develop scalable energy infrastructure in Zambia.

Zambia had around 841 MW of operational solar capacity in September 2026, according to figures published by the country’s Ministry of Energy. The 136 MW Itimpi II project entered operation in May 2026, while ZESCO increased the planned capacity of its Chisamba solar project from 100 MW to 200 MW in July 2026. Zambia aims to increase its renewable energy capacity to 10 GW by 2030 while addressing long-term power shortages. According to the government, the country needs to add around 6 GW of capacity to reach this target and support its objective of producing 3 Mt/year of copper by 2030.
