The Hungary-based climate infrastructure enterprise EnerSynk Group aims to build up to 3 GW of solar power capacity within Zambia by 2030, growing its goals past its initial 500 MW initiative located in the north-central region of the nation (EnerSynk Group announcement, 19/09/2026). This disclosure arrives a few days after the formalization of a 25-year power purchase agreement with Zambia’s national utility ZESCO regarding a scheduled 500 MW solar undertaking situated in the Copperbelt Province.
Zambia featured approximately 841 MW of active solar capacity in September 2026, as stated by statistics released by the nation’s Ministry of Energy. The 136 MW Itimpi II initiative commenced operations in May 2026, whereas ZESCO raised the targeted capacity regarding its Chisamba solar initiative from 100 MW to 200 MW during July 2026. Zambia seeks to elevate its renewable energy capacity toward 10 GW by 2030 while tackling persistent power deficits.
Based on statements from the administration, the country requires the addition of approximately 6 GW of capacity to achieve this milestone and back its target of generating 3 Mt/year of copper by 2030.
