Hungary-based EnerSynk Group has obtained regulatory and legal approvals for the contractual framework of a planned 500 MW utility-scale solar power project in Zambia (EnerSynk Group announcement, 29/07/2026).
The approvals were granted by Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board and the Office of the Attorney General, enabling the project to move forward to the next development phases, including a bankable feasibility study, grid impact assessment, environmental and social impact assessment, financial close and project implementation.
The solar project is planned to operate for 25 years.
The announcement comes as Zambia seeks to expand its renewable energy capacity, particularly through solar developments.
- Earlier in July, the government awarded contracts for the construction of 2 MW solar photovoltaic plants in each of the country’s 156 constituencies, representing a combined installed capacity of 312 MW (KEI 17/07/2026).
- In June, South Korea sent a delegation to discuss potential investments in Zambia’s energy sector through solar and nuclear power projects. The proposed investments include a 500 MW solar project (KEI, 23/06/2026).
Zambia aims to increase its renewable energy capacity to 10 GW by 2030 while addressing long-term power shortages. According to the government, the country needs to add around 6 GW of capacity to reach this target and support its objective of producing 3 Mt/year of copper by 2030.
