Chilean power utility Enersis (61% owned by Endesa) has signed a purchase agreement under the terms of which Enersis will purchase 39.01% currently held by Inkia in Generandes Perú, a company that controls 54.20% of ownership of the Edegel Power Generation company in Peru. Once the transaction is concluded, Enersis will have a direct and indirect economic share of 58.6% in Edegel (it currently indirectly owns, through Endesa Chile, 37.5% of the company).
Enersis currently participates in the generation of electric power in Peru, through Endesa Chile and its subsidiary, Edegel. In addition, Enersis directly controls 96.5% of Empresa Electrica de Piura (Eepsa). Through its two subsidiaries, Enersis represents around 25% of Peruvian installed capacity and 21% of total generation in the country. Enersis also participates in the distribution of electricity through its subsidiary, Edelnor, in which it directly and indirectly controls 75.5% of the ownership. The Edelnor market share, in terms of sales volumes, stood at about 18% at December 2013, while the number of customers reached 1,254,624.
