Energy Vault & Peak Energy sign agreement for 1.5 GWh of sodium-ion storage

Energy Vault and Peak Energy have recently signed a strategic development and supply agreement to deploy sodium-ion battery technology for data centre infrastructure. Energy Vault has secured an initial supply of 1.5 GWh of battery systems manufactured in the US by Peak Energy to ensure supply chain security for its global project portfolio.

The partnership plans to utilise sodium-ion technology to provide an alternative to conventional lithium-ion systems for grid-scale and industrial applications. Traditional battery systems are optimized for steady grid loads and are not well suited to the extreme and volatile power demands created by AI training and inference workloads.

This collaboration has also granted Energy Vault exclusive rights to distribute the technology in Australia and Japan. The integrated solution plans to support the deployment of modular data centre facilities by providing on-site energy storage and management.
