Energy Transfer greenlights 12.4 bcm/year South Mississippi pipeline in the US

Energy Transfer has taken a final investment decision (FID) on the South Mississippi natural gas pipeline project in southern Mississippi, United States (Energy Transfer press release, 03/11/2026). The 346 km pipeline has a planned capacity of about 12.4 bcm/year, subject to final sizing after an open season.

The project has an estimated cost is about USD1.6bn, with an in-service date projected for 2030. It should help giving shippers access to gas from several basins and serve the Southeastern US once operational.

According to the company, long-term and demand-based transportation agreements have been secured, and a binding open season is planned to solicit further customer commitments. Energy Transfer is expected to operate and hold 51% share on the pipeline. Shippers would hold the remaining 49%, depending on the results of the open season.
