Energy Transfer approves US$5.3bn expansion of Transwestern pipeline (US)

Energy Transfer has reached a final investment decision (FID) for a major expansion of its Transwestern Pipeline to boost natural gas supply from the Permian Basin to markets across Arizona and New Mexico (United States).

The US$5.3bn Desert Southwest Expansion project involves the construction of a new 516-mile (830 km) natural gas pipeline with a capacity of 1.5 bcf/d (15.5 bcm/year), along with nine new compressor stations spanning Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Operations are expected to begin in 2029, providing a key outlet for Permian gas producers seeking access to southwestern US markets.

Energy Transfer owns and operates one of the largest energy infrastructure portfolios in the United States, with approximately 140,000 miles (225,300 km) of pipeline. Its network connects energy producers to nearly 200 natural gas-fired power plants across 44 states.
