The British gas producer Energean has signed a 15-year transmission agreement with state-owned Israel Natural Gas Lines (INGL) for Israel’s planned Nitzana gas pipeline to Egypt. “The agreed terms in the transmission agreement are for the supply of up to 1 bcm/year for a 15-year period, with provisions for extensions and early termination. The terms also include rights, during the construction phase, to access available capacity in the Jordan-North pipeline. Nitzana is expected to be operational no later than 36 months” (Energean press release, 24/10/2025).
- The pipeline will transport gas from Israel’s Leviathan field, which holds an estimated 600 bcm of reserves, to the Egyptian border near Nitzana.
- Once completed, the pipeline will have a transport capacity of up to 6.2 bcm/year, raising Israel’s total gas export capacity to Egypt to more than 22.6 bcm/year.
- Energean has also signed a non-binding term sheet with an East Mediterranean client for the offtake of its gas, according to the company statement.
In a related development, in September 2025, U.S. energy major Chevron signed an agreement with Israel Natural Gas Lines to begin construction of the Nitzana pipeline, following a US$35bn export deal in August 2025 to supply gas from the Leviathan field to Egypt (KEI, 18/09/2025).
