Enel suspends the construction of a 205 MW wind project in Colombia

Enel Colombia, a subsidiary of the Italian energy group Enel, has decided to indefinitely suspend the construction of the 205 MW Windpeshi onshore wind project, located in Colombia’s La Guajira department, near the Venezuelan border. The decision was taken after a series of protests from local communities, which created delays in the planned work schedule and increased investments. Enel Colombia is now considering sale options for the project, which was projected to generate more than 1 TWh and supply about 500,000 households once completed.

Enel Colombia, through its Enel Green Power business line, will continue the construction of 800 MW of solar parks in Colombia, notably in the departments of Cesar, Magdalena and Atlántico. Enel is notably developing the 487 MW Guayepo solar project, located in the municipalities of Ponedera and Sabanalarga in northern Colombia.
