Enel starts operations of a 187 MW solar PV project in Colombia

Enel Colombia, a subsidiary of the Italian energy group Enel, has inaugurated its 187 MW La Loma solar PV project in the municipality of El Paso (Cesar, Colombia). The US$126m La Loma project is expected to produce 420 GWh/year for the National Interconnected System (SIN), enough to supply 600,000 Colombians and avoid the annual emission of approximately 198,000 tCO2 with its more than 400,000 solar panels. The project began construction in March 2021, and adds to the El Paso Solar project, built in 2018 and currently under expansion works to achieve a total installed capacity of 99.9 MW.

Enel Colombia has 14 plants with a total installed capacity of 3.5 GW and an additional 800 MW renewable energy projects under construction in Colombia.

At the end of 2022, Colombia had a total installed capacity of 19 GW, of which solar accounted for 457 MW (2%).
