Enel starts the construction of the 754 MW Villanueva PV (Mexico)

Enel Green Power Mexico (EGPM), the renewable energy subsidiary of the Enel Group in Mexico, has announced the construction start of the 754 MW Villanueva solar photovoltaic (PV) in the Coahuila state (Mexico). This is the largest PV park under construction in Mexico and Enel's largest worldwide project in renewable energies. The company has planned to invest US$650m in the construction of the facility which will enter into service in Q2 2018 and generate over 1,700 GWh per year.



The plant is owned by EGPM sunsidiaries Villanueva Solar SA and Parque Solar Villanueva Tres SA and encompasses the Villanueva-1 and Villanueva-3 parks with a respective capacity of 427 MW and 327 MW.



EGPM is Mexico's largest renewables operator in terms of installed capacity. The company operates 728 MW of installed capacity of which 675 MW of wind power and 53 MW of hydropower.



Enel expects to develop several other solar and wind projects in Mexico in the years to come with a combined capacity of around 1 GW:

- Villanueva-1 and Villanueva-3 with a combined expected capacity of 754 MW

- The Amistad wind park with a capacity of 200 MW, which just entered its construction phase in March 2017

- Don Jose SPP (Guanajuato State) with an expected capacity of 238 MW

- Salitrillos wind power (Tamaulipas State) with a future capacity of 93 MW
