Enel starts building the 487 MW Guayepo solar project in Colombia

Enel Green Power, a subsidiary of the Italian utility Enel, has installed the first solar panel of the nearly 487 MW Guayepo solar project, located in the municipalities of Ponedera and Sabanalarga in northern Colombia. The solar project, divided in two phases (Guayepo I and II), will comprise more than 820,000 solar panels distributed across 69 subfields. It is currently the largest solar project under construction in Colombia. Its completion is expected by the end of 2023.

In addition, Enel Green Power started construction activities of the Elevadora Martillo Substation and the adaptation of the 500 kV high voltage transmission line that will receive the power generated by the solar panels.

Enel in Colombia has a has a capacity of nearly 3.6 GW and about 1.1 GW of renewable energy capacity under construction. The company is also currently building the 187 MW La Loma solar project and the 132 MW Fundacion solar project in the country. At the end of 2021, solar represented about 1% of Colombia’s installed capacity with 213 MW and less than 1% of its power generation with 338 GWh.
