Italian energy group Enel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indonesia's national power utility PT PLN to cooperate in renewable power generation projects in Indonesia. Enel and PLN will evaluate possible opportunities on projects in electricity generation in the country starting from the joint assessment of the local market for renewables, conventional technologies and mini-grids.
Enel is seeking to develop an operational presence in Indonesia, the largest economy of South-East Asia; currently in Indonesia, Enel owns a minority stake in the mining company Bayan Resources. The group will be scouting for potential opportunities, especially in geothermal, hydropower, wind, solar photovoltaic for renewable energy and CCGT on the conventional front. Enel and PLN will also scout for potential opportunities in mini-grid technologies for the energy supply of remote areas and islands.
