The Czech energy group Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH) has acquired the 50% stake currently owned by Enel in Slovak Power Holding (SPH), which owns a 66% stake in Slovakia's largest electricity producer Slovenské elektrárne (SE).
The transaction is under the early call option, introduced in 2020 as part of amendments to the original contract signed in December 2015, between EPH and Enel, for the phased sale of 100% of SPH’s share capital to EPH. In 2016, the first phase of the sale was completed with EPH acquiring 50% of SPH’s share capital from Enel, leaving the remaining 50% of SPH’s capital to be transferred upon the closing of the second phase. The €150m deal for the acquisition of SPH has already been paid at the completion of the first phase of the sale, while the closing of the transaction is still subject to regulatory approval from the corresponding authorities.
Slovenské elektrárne is the largest electricity producer in Slovakia and generated nearly 22 TWh of electricity in 2023. The net electricity supply from Slovenské elektrárne amounted to 19.6 TWh in 2023. The company produces electricity from nuclear, hydro and solar power plants.
