Italian energy group Enel, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power, has commissioned its 82.5 MW solar PV power project in Paleisheuwel, in South Africa, whose construction was completed in April 2016. The plant will generate more than 150 GWh/year and will sell power to national utility Eskom under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
In South Africa, Enel currently owns and operates the 10 MW Upington solar PV power plant situated in the Northern Cape province, and has further 430 MW of projects under construction, including the 82.5 MW Adams, 82.5 MW Pulida and 66 MW Tom Burke PV plants and the 88 MW Nojoli and 111 MW Gibson Bay wind parks. Moreover, in 2015 Enel was awarded a further five wind projects for a total capacity of 705 MW following the fourth phase of REIPPPP tender. Once all these projects will be completed, Enel’s total capacity in the country will be around 1.2 GW.
