Enefit Green plans to develop a 2 GW offshore wind project in Estonia

Liivi Offshore, a subsidiary of Estonia’s Enefit Green, has launched the building permit procedure and environmental impact assessment (EIA) process to develop a 2,010 MW offshore wind project in two areas of the Gulf of Riga, south of Kihnu Island, in Estonia. The announcement was made by the Estonian Consumer Protection and Technical Supervision Authority (CPTRA / TTJA).

According to the applications, the developer plans to install a total of up to 140 wind turbines, with a height of up to 300m, over an area of 168 km2. Enefit Green is also currently developing the 1 GW Liivi offshore wind farm off Estonia.

In 2023, wind represented over 13% of Estonia’s installed capacity with 408 MW. The development of wind is the main priority for the country, with several offshore projects in development. Estonia aims to reach 4.3 TWh of renewable power generation in 2030, including 2.6 TWh from wind in order to achieve its target of reaching climate neutrality by 2050.
