Spanish electric utility Endesa (70.1% owned by Italian Group Enel) will invest €1.8bn until 2024 to develop two renewable projects that will replace two thermal power plants that will be decommissioned in Andorra (Teruel) and Compostilla (León).
The company plans to replace the Teruel 1,100 MW lignite-fired plant located in Andorra (commissioned in 1979), with 1,725 MW of renewable, plus 160 MW of storage, requiring an investment of €1.5bn. Over the 1,725 MW of renewable, 1,585 MW will correspond to a solar plant under construction in Europe, 139 MW will have a wind source. The project, that will be build in the site of the current thermal plant, will incorporate a large-scale storage system of up to 159.3 MW.
In addition, Endesa will decommission its 1,052 MW Compostilla thermal plant and build 390 renewable MW, with an investment of €341m
