The German energy group EnBW has decided not to continue the Mona and Morgan offshore wind projects in the United Kingdom, with a combined capacity of 3 GW (EnBW press release, 15/01/2026). The projects are no longer economically viable according to the company’s standards since they failed to obtain an award in the recent Contracts for Difference allocation round (AR7), and other factors beyond its control.
The projects, located on the Irish Sea, have been in development since 2021 in partnership with Jera Nex BP. They were planned to have a capacity of 1.5 GW each. The Morgan project was classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP).
The United Kingdom seeks to reach up to 50 GW of clean energy from offshore wind deployed by 2030. At the end of 2024, the country had an offshore wind capacity of over 16 GW.
