EnBW has started commercial operations of its 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind project in the German North Sea (EnBW press release, 18/09/2026). The EUR2.4bn project comprises 64 Vestas turbines rated 15 MW each and is expected to supply electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of around 1.1 million households. According to EnBW, the project was financed entirely through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
EnBW secured the project in Germany’s first zero-subsidy offshore auction in 2017, with construction starting in May 2024, with contractual partners including Google, Deutsche Bahn, DHL Group, Bosch, Evonik, PASM, and Fraport. EnBW holds a 50.1% stake, while the remaining 49.9% is owned by a consortium including Allianz entities, AIP Management and Norges Bank Investment Management.
The project marks the completion of Germany’s largest offshore wind installation. As of 2025, Germany had an installed offshore wind capacity of 9.2 GW, representing 3% of its total installed capacity (Enerdata’s Global Energy & CO2 data).
