German energy group EnBW has released its 2018 results, posting positive earnings trend despite challenging operating conditions throughout the 2018 financial year (6.2% decline in revenues to €20.6bn).
In 2018, the group's installed power generating capacity rose by 3% (+392 MW) to 13.4 GW, as 387 MW of new renewable capacity was added (mainly onshore wind and pumped-storage hydropower plants). The share of renewables in EnBW's capacity rose to nearly 28% and renewables accounted for nearly 16% of its power generation. Total power generation grew by 6.6% (+3.3 TWh), as nuclear power generation grew by 18% (+3.1 TWh) after a record low generation in 2017. Onshore wind generation rose by more than 50% but the growth was offest by lower generation from offshore wind power due to unfavourable wind conditions.
In 2018, EnBW transmitted 64 TWh of electricity (stable on 2017) and 33 TWh of gas during the year (+1%). Energy sales declined (-6% to 36 TWh for electricity and -1% for gas to 56 TWh), mainly on the B2B segment.
