En+ and partners will develop a 1 GW wind project in Russia’s Far East

The Russian company En+, in partnership with the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (KRDV) and the Government of the Amur Region (eastern Russia), has announced it will develop a 1,058 MW wind power project in the Belogorsk district of the Amur Region.

The three entities have signed a cooperation agreement on the project, which will require a total investment estimated at RUB60bn (US$635m). The agreement includes studying the climatic features of the region to optimise the operation of the wind park as well as coordinating actions for the implementation of the project.

As of end-2022, wind represented less than 1% of Russia’s installed capacity (2.3 GW), and 0.3% of its total power generation (3.4 TWh). Currently, Russia has about 4 GW of wind power under development.
