Emergy postpones the construction of a 790 MW onshore wind project in Ukraine

Emergy has postponed the construction of the 790 MW Zophia onshore wind project in the Zaporizhia region in south-eastern Ukraine due to issues with off-take payments, difficulties in securing foreign investment and regulations. The project is divided into three stages, Zophia 1 of 40 MW, Zophia 2 of 300 MW and Zophia 3 of 450 MW. Originally, Emergy planned to build Zophia 1 and 2 with a total capacity of 340 MW under the green tariff.

Ukraine's wind capacity reached 1.4 GW in 2020 (3% of the total capacity) and accounted for less than 1.5% of total power generation. The country has a total capacity of 55 GW, made up of 29% coal-fired power plants, 25% nuclear, 20% gas-fired power plants, 11% hydro, and 12% renewables (end of 2020).
