Elia commissions the 380 kV Stevin transmission project (Belgium)

The Belgian transmission system operator Elia has commissioned the Stevin power transmission project, which comprises a new double 380 kV line that runs for 47 km between Zomergen and Zeebrugge to distribute power across the Belgian network. The €340m Stevin line can carry up to 3,000 MW and includes three high-voltage substations: the Stevin substation in Zeebrugge, Gezelle in Bruges (close to Herdersbrug) and the Van Maerlant facility in Vivenkapelle (Damme).

Besides, it will also integrate with the Nemo project, which is scheduled to exchange electricity between Belgium and the United Kingdom as of 2019. The power line is expected to transport the wind energy generated in the Belgium offshore wind parks through the connection to the Modular Offshore Grid (MOG), an offshore platform built 40 km off the Belgian coast.
