CGT Eletrosul, a subsidiary of Brazilian electric company Eletrobras, has started implementation of the 302.4 MW Coxilha Negra onshore wind farm, located in Sant'Ana do Livramento in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande Do Sul, following approval of the project from ANEEL, the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency. The first turbines are expected to be installed by the first quarter of 2024.
The three plants that make up the park will be comprised of 72 wind turbines over an area of 8,466 hectares. For the feasibility of the project, about 100 km of new accesses will be built, in addition to the revitalization of 56 km of roads. Each wind turbine will have a power of 4.2 MW.
CGT Eletrosul currently owns the Cerro Chato Wind Complex, composed of six parks, with 69 wind turbines in full operation and 138 MW of installed power in the region of Sant'Ana do Livramento. With this next deployment, the company will reach 440 MW of wind power generation capacity.
At end- 2021, Brazil possessed 20.8 GW of onshore wind capacity (11% of the country’s total capacity).
