Eletrobras sells Brazilian power distributor Cepisa to Equatorial Energia

The Brazilian power utility Equatorial Energia has made a successful bid for the acquisition of Eletrobras' power distribution subsidiary Companhia de Energia do Piauí (Cepisa). Equatorial Energia was the sole bidder for Cepisa, which is present in the northeastern Brazilian state of Piauí and sells electricity to 1.2 million customers.



In February 2018, Eletrobras announced the sale of six distribution company, namely Boa Vista Energia, Amazonas Distribuidora de Energia, Eletroacre, Ceron, Ceal and Cepisa.



Equatorial Energia is present in the Brazilian power distribution market (97% of its revenues) through CEMAR in the state of Maranhão (123,033 km and 2.3 million customers) and CELPA in the state of Pará (121,512 km and 2.4 million customers). Besides, it also plays a role in the power transmission sector through 8 different projects covering the states of Pará, Piauí, Bahia and Minas Gerais.
